Class Cancelation/School Closing

Weather Emergency

The Union establishes its own policy on canceling classes due to weather emergencies. Basically, classes will be held as scheduled unless specific information to the contrary is posted. Announcements affecting day classes will be made by 6:00 a.m. and evening classes by 3:00 p.m. Students, faculty, and staff may obtain the information on school closure or delays, as follows:

  • A message will be given on the school's main telephone number (202.726.8800) and more complete information will be on the Union web's home page (scroll text at bottom).
  • Announcements will also be given on radio news station WTOP (103.5FM and 820AM) as well as posted on its website (www.wtop.com). Local television stations (Channels 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9) will also be notifed to post our information on their websites.

Instructor Absence

When classes are canceled because of instructor absence, students may be notified by the instructor in advance or by the Registrar's Office, if information is provided in sufficient time for contact by telephone or e-mail. Otherwise a notice will be posted at the classroom entrance.

Consortium Schools

There is no common Consortium policy at this time on class cancelations for weather emergency or individual instructor absence. Students attending a Consortium course should check with the host school's policy on such cancelations.
